There are many things people do not realize about the challenges of being a video gamer tester. Although it is a wonderful area for individuals... such perhaps as yourself? That can find great pleasure in working with big companies such as Atari, EA or Blizzard. As many people who get into the business of actually creating the games, first really start as a computer game testing professional. Now is it really all that people think it's cracked up to be?
I personally think... Hell yeah it is! But there are a few little things about this industry of the game, to be explored for those truly looking to gain a true over view of how video game testing really works. Since the early 90's I was testing video game console games. Back then they sent you blank cartidges (no images on it - only version numbers and the name), it was a super pain in the ass and OMG did it drive me crazy. But there is something about testing these PC games out now days that just make me have a wet dream at night.
Since you will be testing for script errors, graphic errors and anything else in between it is really nice to have a new version ready to test at a moments notice. You don't have to wait around for ever and be on phone calls to get your job done correctly. This industry is so much easier to be in now days then it use to be. So as long as you can keep yourself entertained with sometimes sub-par games and some really bad coding, and sometimes even bad English, then you'll be alright. So with that said having a keen eye, and sharp memory and a decent vocabulary and understanding of grammar you'll do fantastic. But that is where most people fall flat on their faces. Getting the jobs. Although I'm an expert and have been in the beginning it's SUPER easy for me to get work, in fact it comes flocking to me.
Let me put game testings like this to you. There is a thing called flier delivery and it's most likely one of the crappiest jobs out there. But the reason it sucks so much is because people jump into it thinking all they have to do is walk around to houses all day. Well, that's great and all, but in the end, people drop like flies! Those who keep up with the job and keep pounding the pavement are the ones who are called back for newer computer, but this guys is a liar and his site sucks. If you can keep up with the punches and come back for more, you'll be chosen for more and more epic jobs, and then THAT's when it becomes awesome and totally worthy it.
You can view more information about testing jobs from the link above this article. It's a decent guide that I've sent some aspiring game testees.... (sounds wrong right?) ....
Either way, I might continue with this blog. I might not, but either way best of luck to you with this new opportunity of life giving sustenance (MONEY!!!!!)... YAY!
